Make accessibility monitoring more efficient with tools
Quality monitoring tools are often seen as a cost, and the benefits they bring are often not properly assessed. Quality monitoring is not always seen as an important issue, but it is in practice.
A company’s website is its business card. If it is full of broken links, lack of accessibility and other quality issues, it is easy for visitors to get the impression of carelessness, negligence or even that the whole company or its services are of poor quality. However, in most cases this is not the case, but a lack of resources.
Benefits of a tool
An automated tool makes it easier to monitor the site as a whole. If a site has more than 10 pages, monitoring it manually becomes quite a chore, and if there are thousands of pages, it becomes very difficult to keep track of them. If your time is not fully allocated to such manual monitoring, the task is practically impossible without a tool.
The use of a tool makes quality monitoring more effective. Even if the tools don’t find everything, they do find quite a lot of different things that nobody needs to spend time looking for. This allows time to be spent on correcting things and possibly on monitoring that requires human involvement.
Tools are not a shortcut to happiness
No automated tool can currently find all accessibility issues. In other words, just by using a tool, you cannot say that a site is fully accessible, even in a situation where the tool does not find any issues.
No tool is ever a guarantee of a perfect result, but its purpose is to help and assist in monitoring the site.
Exove partners with tool providers
To help our clients in monitoring the accessibility of their services as much as possible, we partner with a number of companies. We actively monitor the tool market and are expanding our partnerships with suitable companies.
Currently we are partners with Siteimprove and Webwarden, both of which provide quality monitoring outside of accessibility as well.
Siteimprove
Siteimprove has been on the market for a long time and is a well-known and feature-rich tool. In addition to accessibility, Siteimprove offers many other checks related to site quality in general. The features available in Siteimprove depend to some extent on the packages selected for the tool.
Siteimprove differs from other tools in particularly in terms of analytics monitoring. Very few other tools offer analytics functionality.
Siteimprove also has a comprehensive list of additional tools, including integrations with a number of different content management systems and tools. An interesting new feature just released is the ability to integrate Siteimprove into CI/CD workflows.
Webwarden
Webwarden is a newcomer to the market. In Webwarden, all the features in the tool are available to everyone, there are no separate feature sets.
In addition to accessibility monitoring, Webwarden also provides other quality of service monitoring for both technical and content sides. Webwarden aims to bring all the features related to website monitoring into one tool and reduce the amount of tools needed as well as the costs.
