Communities
Community empowers growth
There are several communities around any given company. Some of them are tightly knit and others are more loosely arranged. If the company is able to produce good services for some of these communities, these services will get a head start from the competitors. If the community is growing constantly, the distance grows exponentially. No other service can match such a growth.
The union of the company and the community provides benefits for both of them: the company gets customer loyalty, feedback or commitment to the brand. On the other hand, the community gets new tools to better strive for its endeavours.
The following services have been found to work well with communities:
- Forums – the most common community service, in very large use. Forums should be combined with another service to solidify the community further.
- Blogs – the community forms within the blog commentors and other bloggers that blog about the same subject.
- Wikis (Documents or sites that are modified by the community) – very strong community model that both has excellent commitment ratio and produces a lot of content.
- Polls – used usually as a value added service with another community service. There are also poll building services that may be used inside the community to create polls from members to members.
A successful community service usually includes a variety of different services that produce added value to each other and to the community members.
